Friday morning, the Orchard Park Fire Company, Hillcrest, Windom, Orchard Park Police Department, Erie County Emergency Services ESU, and Mercy Flight help simulate a serious motor vehicle accident at the Orchard Park Senior High School as part of their pre-prom festivities. As part of the incident, students are exposed to a very serious motor vehicle accident where one vehicle was set on fire, while two other vehicles were cut apart using the Jaws of Life. Students witness their peers appear to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs, their emotions of being involved in the incident, and eventually get arrested by the police department. After the victims are extricated from the vehicles, students watch as one of their fellow peers are loaded into an awaiting Mercy Flight helicopter and flown away. The end goal of the simulation is to show high school seniors the potential devastating effects of drinking while driving.
